I'm not a scientist . . .
. . .I'm not a mathematician, I'm not a historian, I'm not Shakespeare, I'm not an Olympian, and by no reach am I a genius, but I am an artist. I have been doing art for as long as I can remember. It is what I love to do and it definitely consumes my life; in an intriguing way.
Imagine a little girl in kindergarten, her assignment, color; subject matter Thanksgiving pilgrims; goal try to make it look the best she can. When the class was done everybody showed and compared; the girl was still attentively working, with every color on her desk she worked slowly and carefully. The assistant teacher came over to see what was going on. The girl looked up and stopped working, she was embarrassed and felt bad for taking so long. With haste, she picked up all the colors, apologized and started to put them back. The assistant insisted that she finished. The girl had only one more detail to add, the skin tone, so she figured it was in fact okay and went quickly to work. With the orange in hand, she lightly colored along the face and arms, she looked up and explained that, when colored lightly, the orange can replace skin color. The assistant laughed and brought the teacher over and they were shocked. The little girl beamed knowing that she had done something right! While this story is fairly extensive, it's one of my earliest memories of showing interest in art.
I have been doing art for as long as I can remember. It is what I love to do and it definitely consumes my life; in an intriguing way. I always grew up unsure of which type of art I would like to major in, but I have been leaning toward design. However, I find that design can play into various different majors and careers; I've been strongly considering illustration in the advertising industry and hope to excel there. Whenever I'm in a store I like to find something that I can change. Whether it be with the display, or a garment, I find it entertaining to reposition things or rearrange objects in a more aesthetically pleasing way. I’ve been told by many that I have an eye for what looks good and I certainly hope they are correct, because I definitely have a lot to learn. I'm looking forward to becoming more successful as my artistic career continues to develop and unfold.
